Lee Foundation Funds Research on Schizophrenia
In 2013, the Lee Foundation granted the University of Buffalo Foundation $600,000 towards "Advancing Schizophrenia Treatment Breakthroughs, Education and Outreach in Western New York". In late December, the research outcomes were published in the University of Buffalo News.
In the course of their research, Dr. Stachowiak and his team discovered that schizophrenia likely begins very early in development towards the end of the first trimester of pregnancy. The finding opens up a new understanding of this devastating disease and the potential for new treatment possibilities in utero.
